The 14-year-old born to run, Budhia Singh who went missing after the end of his summer vacation was traced in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu by the Police vacationing there.
Y.B. Khurania, Commissioner of Police for Bhubaneswar-Cuttack told reporters that they had a word with both Budhia and his mother Sukanti Singh and they confirmed that they are on a vacation and they went to Kodaikanal on their own will and were not abducted.
“The boy and his mother are likely to return to the city on July 24-25”, Khurania added.
Budhia, whi had set a world record at the age of four by running for almost 65km between Puri and Bhubaneswar in 2006 was in focus again since he did not return to his sports hostel after summer vacations ended.
As Children Welfare Committee (CWC) of Khordha was the one who had rescued Budhia 10 years back and had struggled to put him in the sports hostel, wanted to know about the wearabouts of the boy. After sending various notices in his name to his home in the Salia Sahi Slum area of Bhubaneswar and also sending notices to Viacom 18 who has produced the movie ‘Budhia:Born to run’, launched a complaint under section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal code to the local police.
To end their long vacation on a happy note, Budhia and his mother will be visiting Mumbai before returning to the state, officials confirmed.
