Kolkata: Eduardo Ferreira, who was signed by Kolkata giants East Bengal as a replacement for Caribbean defender Carlyle Mitchell sounded determined when he said that he wanted to use his experience of playing in India to focus on winning the I-League.
”I am playing in India for last two seasons and that would help me to perform well. I am eagerly waiting for dawning the Red & Gold jersey. My only focus is to win the I-League for my side,” said Eduardo, after he arrived in the city on Sunday.
Eduardo, who also played for FC Pune City in the ISL was signed by the Red and Gold brigade as a replacement for Caribbean defender Carlyle Deon Mitchell who had suffered a hamstring injury during training two weeks ago and is expected to be out of action for atleast six weeks.
Hence, the club released the Trinidad and Tobago international on Friday and the Calcutta Football League champions signed Eduardo soon after.
The Brazilian who represented Equatorial Guinea at the international level thus becomes the sixth foreign signing for East Bengal after Willis Plaza, Bazzou Armand, Mahmoud Al-Amna, Yusa Katsumi and Charles De Souza.
The Brazilian central defender stressed on the importance of Charles in the squad and also said that he was looking forward to playing with Mohun Bagan teammate Katsumi in the I-League.
“Charles is the key player in this squad and I played with Katsumi last season and it will be great to share the dressing room together again. I am ready to give my 100 percent for East Bengal,” he added.
Eduardo’s performance would be a deciding factor in East Bengal’s campaign in the upcoming season scheduled to begin in November. The Kolkata giants, who have fallen short of winning the national title since 2004 have already built a squad that can do wonders in the field and the Brazilian undoubtedly would be one of those players to look out for in the upcoming I-League.
