Kolkata: Indian women’s team spearhead Jhulan Goswami has always been an inspiration to many women cricketers, not only in the country but also across the world. Her story of struggle, hard-work, perseverance and determination to make it big in life would now be reproduced on the screen as the lanky all-rounder is all set to have her own biopic.
The announcement of the same was made at the Fanattic Sports Museum on Tuesday in the presence of the director Sushanta Das and the star pacer herself.
Speaking on who could play the Indian pacer on the screen, Das said, “We have three-four names in mind and they are from Bollywood. Talks are on and as soon as it’s finalised, we will disclose the names. We are planning to use the title Chakdah Express.”
He also confirmed that the movie would be made in Hindi so that it uniformly reaches out to the entire country as a whole.
The expected time for the movie to be released is during the women’s T20 World Cup next year beginning on November 2 in the West Indies.
Das further opened up on the project as he said, “She (Jhulan) is from Chakdah, she has a struggle, she has a very interesting kind of life and her story is related to the development of Indian women’s cricket. This movie will have all the things like how she started playing cricket, how she made it to the Indian team.”
Also, when asked that whether there would be any areas of her life shown in the movie that the people doesn’t know, Jhulan said, “There will be few. I mean, there’s not much because everybody knows how I am. There will be some areas which I won’t disclose now.”
This point was emphasised upon by Das as well, who said that the movie will have some, unknown parts of the life of the former Indian skipper.
She also went on to clarify as to why she agreed to have a film made on her life this time around when she has rejected such offers in the past.
Said Jhulan, “So far, I had turned down offers to have a film made on my life because I felt that I hadn’t really achieved anything that could serve as an inspiration to the next generation.”
Thus the trend of biopics being made on Indian athletes continue. After movies on Milkha Singh, Mary Kom, MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar and also Mohammad Azharuddin, Jhulan’s biopic is set to become the first of it’s kind in Indian women’s cricket.
We at SportsCrunch hope that Jhulan’s story, this time through the screen continues to inspire millions of budding women cricketers all over the world.
