Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday invited applications for the positions of senior, junior and women national selectors. Thereby, the all-powerful cricket board flouted the Supreme Court-appointed Justive RM Lodha panel recommendations on several aspects.
BCCI has also put some very specific conditions for the applicants for their applications to be considered by the board. The last date to apply for this prestigious post is September 14. The applicants must be below the age of 60 years to be considered for their application to be looked upon.
For the position of junior national selector, the applicant should have played more than 50 first-class matches in India. While for the position of senior national selector, the applicant should have represented India in either Test or One day International (ODI) or must have played more than 50 first-class matches in India.
As BCCI wants a fresh entry for the team selectors and as per the existing rule of BCCI, the association has made it very clear that any individual, who has served as national selector in the board and has already completed four years in as a selector is not eligible for the job. Another criteria for consideration of the applicant is that he should have retired on record, from all forms of cricket at least five years prior to this date of application.
The applicant must not be associated with of any Indian Premier League (IPL) team’s management or part of any other league in the world. He/she should also not be associated directly or indirectly with any cricket coaching academy anywhere in the world. Also the aspirant cannot in any form, be engaged with any media house or publication or syndicated columns once shortlisted for the position.
The Lodha committee’s recommendation on the selection of national selectors was that each selection committee should comprise of three members only and senior selection committee to be made up of former Test cricketers.
One of the interesting criterion for the selection to the position is that the candidates should be willing to undergo a medical examination at any given point, if selected.
