London: Riding on a brilliant century by Manjot Kalra (122) and a brilliant ten-wicket haul from paceman Kamlesh Nagarkoti, the Indian U-19 team thrashed their English counterparts by a whopping 334-run margin on Wednesday in the first four day match in Chesterfield.
Both Prithvi Shaw (86 and 69) and Riyan Das (68 and 50) registered 50 plus scores in both of the innings and in combination to a solid 89 from the bat of Harvik Desai, India U-19 posted a mammoth total of 497 for England to win the match having posted 519 in their first innings.
If the batsmen did their job successfully, the bowlers complemented that effort and bundled out the English U-19 team for 195 and 163 in both the innings respectively.
In the first innings, it was a five-wicket haul by Nagarkoti and four wickets from Shivam Mavi that restricted the hosts to just 195 runs. In the second innings, Nagarkoti led the way again with another fifer that destroyed the English batting line-up and handed the Indians a massive 334 run win. Nagarkoti ended with match-figures of 10/112.
The next and the last Test match between both these sides would be held in Worcester on Monday after which the Indian colts would take on England U-19 in a five-match ODI series.
