Kolkata: Just days after resigning as the head coach Mohun Bagan, Sanjoy Sen joins Indian Super League (ISL) franchise ATK as it’s head of youth development.
The 57 year-old who led Bagan to their only I-League title glory in the 2014-15 season, resigned from his post earlier this month after a streak of poor Results that saw the Mariners drop to fifth after three consecutive draws and a shock home defeat to Chennai City at home.
“I had decided I will quit if we lost at home. I have been unbeaten at home for the last three years,” he had said after Bagan’s 2-1 loss to Chennai City.
A former coach of the Indian U-16 team Sen had earlier worked with a number of current Indian internationals such as Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Jeje Lalpekhlua, Pritam Total and Prabir Das among others and returns to the youth set-up after four stints as head coach of I-League clubs.
Since joining Prayag United in 2010, Sen has also gone on to coach Mohammedan Sporting Club and Mohun Bagan in the last six years, leading both the latter clubs to trophies during his tenure with them.
He has signed a one-year contract with Kolkata franchise and is tasked with nurturing upcoming talents that may represent the ISL side in future. ATK principal owner Sanjeev Goenka is reported to have played a major role in luring the experienced gaffer to their camp, someone who once claimed to have totally disliked the ISL.
