Dubai: Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who didn’t participate in the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka at home owing to personal commitments has lost his pole position as the number one ranked batsman in the shortest format of the game.
The Indian team, on the other hand rose to the second spot in the latest T20I rankings after outplaying Sri Lanka 3-0 at home two days ago. The men in blue, with 121 rating points have went past England, New Zealand and West Indies to be the second placed team in the ICC T20I rankings after Pakistan, who has 124 rating points.
But Kohli, who was at the top of the T20I batting rankings, has slipped to the second place after his rating points reduced from 824 to 776 due to his absence from the India-Sri Lanka T20I series.
As is the norm, players lose 2 per cent of rating points for every missed T20I and now the 29-year-old stands behind Australia’s Aaron Finch (784) and West Indies’ Evin Lewis (780).
But KL Rahul, who hit back-to-back half centuries in the first two T20Is has risen to the fourth spot in the rankings for batsmen.
However, Kohli wasn’t the only one to have slipped in the T20I rankings. Jasprit Bumrah, who didn’t participate in the last match also slipped to the third spot in the bowlers’ rankings and now stands after Pakistan’s Imad Wasim and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan.
Yuzvendra Chahal, who had a good T20I series against the Lankans with eight wickets saw him gain 14 places to reach to the 16th position in the rankings. Kuldeep Yadav, his bowling partner gained a whopping 48 places to the 64th position and Hardik Pandya also moved up 40 places to be placed at the 39th position. Both Kuldeep and Pandya took six wickets each in the series.
