After an encouraging feat of getting consent from most of national badminton associations across the globe, BAI organising committee has decided to rechristen the Indian Badminton League (IBL) as Premier Badminton League (PBL). This also reflects the seriousness with which the Associations and players themselves have taken the tournament. The new name will also bring premium to the Tournament and raise the bar for all the shutters participating in the tournament. With PBL this League is no more associated with any country and it takes a global appeal. The decision to give a new name to the event was taken after much deliberation and keeping in mind that the committee aims to take global level in the upcoming seasons of the tournament.
Speaking about the development, Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta, President- BAI said “It was a well thought out decision to change the name of the event at this stage and We want to see Premier Badminton League take global stage with more traction from all the stakeholders. We aim to make PBL the most sought after Tournament in the world of badminton”
The tournament will kick-start on 2nd January, 2016 in Mumbai with an extravagant Opening Ceremony and the Grand Finale will happen at Delhi on 17th January, 2016. While Indian shuttle players are engraving their names across the world, the Premier Badminton League will bring together India’s top shuttle players along with international players for a high-class action in front of the Indian sports lovers.
