Kolkata: Indian Super League franchise Chennaiyan FC on Wednesday completed the signing of Nigerian striker Jude Ikechukwu Nworuh on a free transfer for the fourth edition of the tournament.
The 28-year old who last played for FC Ilves, joined Chennaiyin after seeing out his contract with the Finnish club and will join Raphael Augusto, Rene Mihelic, Inigo Calderon and Jaime Gavilan as the fifth overseas signing of the club.
Excited on joining a non-European club for the first time in his career, Jude said, “I would like to thank Chennaiyin FC and especially coach John Gregory for giving me this opportunity. The Indian Super League is going to be a new and exciting project for me. I am really looking forward to the start of pre-season and of course play in front of the passionate Chennaiyin FC fans at the Marina Arena.”
Nworuh began his career with FC Ebedei where he put up fine performances for the club, before moving to Danish side, FC Midtjylland. He spent three years with the club and made 88 appearances, scoring over 17 goals.
Chennayin FC head coach John Gregory was quoted as saying, “Jude is a forward with immense pace who can finish and also create chances. He had a great career in Denmark and is highly rated in Israel football, a market I know very well. He has all the attributes to succeed in the ISL and help us achieve our target of winning back the title.”
The 28-year old forward, is expected to replace former Chennaiyin star Stiven Mendoza in the team set-up and will help them in their quest for a second ISL title in four years.
