Profile | Amit Panghal is an Indian amateur boxer, who represents India since 2017. He is an Asian Games gold medalist and Asian Boxing Champion in the light flyweight category. Panghal was born in a village of Haryana named Mayna, to a farmer family. His elder brother is also an amateur boxer; he got inspired by his brother and started taking his professional boxing training since his childhood. Panghal went to the Sir Chhoturam boxing Academy and took his primary training there since 2007. After taking professional training of amateur boxing for 10 years, he made his debut in 2017 National Boxing Championship. He won a gold medal at that competition and took part in the Asian Amateur Boxing Championship in the same following year. After this, he won Strandzha Cup title and became a silver medalist in 2018 Commonwealth Games. Then he won gold in the 2018 Asian Games. In April 2019, Panghal became the most praised amateur boxer in the world by winning a gold medal in Asian Boxing Championship by defeating World’s No.1 boxer despite suffering from high fever. He also won a gold medal in Strandzha Cup 2019 held in Sofia and became one of the most successful young Indian amateur boxers of all-time.
