Profile | Dimuth Karunaratne is a Sri Lankan cricketer, who plays for the national cricket squad of Sri Lanka since 2011. He plays in test and ODI formats of the game and currently captains these two formats as well. He is a left-handed opening batsman and occasionally bowls right-arm medium. Karunaratne is a red ball specialist and has started his professional cricket career since his school days. In domestic circuit, Karunaratne represents Sinhalese Sports Club in first-class cricket. He used to play for A-squad of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Under-19 team in his beginning days. Dimuth Karunaratne was a record-breaking batsman for his school cricket squad and made numbers of records during his school days. After showing a few mesmerizing innings in Under-19 cup tournaments, he got a chance to appear in Sri Lankan national cricket team in 2011. Karunaratne made his international debut through an ODI match in July 2011 against England. After this, he got the opportunity to represent the Test squad of Sri Lanka in 2012 against New Zealand. He is a compact batsman and with undeniable batting adept in any type of crease. It is his consistency of scoring that not only gave him a permanent place in the national team but also made him captain of the team gradually. Despite his glorious cricket career, this talented Sri Lankan batsman got involved in a scam of the drink-and-drive case and faced some unpleasant incidents of his career.
