The Indian defender from Amritsar, Punjab, Harmanpreet Singh made his International debut in 2015 in a four-match Series against Japan at Bhubaneswar where he made two appearances. However, the youngster’s next appearance for the national side was in 2016 during the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup where India won the Silver Medal.
Harmanpreet won another Silver medal with India at the Men’s Champions Trophy 2016 and represented the country at the Olympic Games at the age of only 20 in the same year. He was a crucial member, drag flicker of the Indian Junior Men’s team that won the Uttar Pradesh Hockey Junior World Cup Men 2016.
His performances in the 2017 Hockey India League got him in the national squad which has since led him to win three medals for the national team – the Gold medal at the Hero Asia Cup 2017, Bronze medal at the Odisha Men’s Hockey World League Final Bhubaneswar 2017 and the Silver medal at the FIH Men’s Champions Trophy 2018.
Harmanpreet was part of the Indian team that won Bronze at the 18th Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang and also lifted the Hero Asian Champions Trophy Muscat 2018 as joint winners with Pakistan. Harmanpreet was one of India’s finest performers at the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar which took place last year.
