Profile | Tejaswini Sawant is an Indian International shooter, who started representing India internationally in 2004. She is a three-time Commonwealth Games medalist and one of the most successful female shooters of the country of all-time. She started her career with the South Asian Sports Federation Games in 2004, where she led India to bag a gold medal. Her brilliant performance soon drives her towards the international field and she made her CWG debut in 2006. In 2006 Commonwealth Games, Sawant won 2 gold medals in the 10m air rifle pairs and raised the expectation on herself for the upcoming world championships. She clinched a bronze medal in her first attempt for the ISSF World Cup in 2009. The very next year, Sawant bagged a gold medal in this same championship and became the first female shooter from India to win a gold medal at the World Championship. She made a world record at that championship as well by scoring equaling score in the 50 meters rifle prone category. After this, she took part in the 2010 Commonwealth Games and bagged 2 silver medals along with a 1 bronze medal in women’s 50m rifle 3 positions event. In 2018 CWG, Sawant clinched a gold medal again along with a silver one and set a world record of scoring 457.9 points in the 50 meters rifle 3 positions event.
