Dubai: India opener Rohit Sharma gained two places to claim the fifth position in the ICC ODI rankings for batsmen according to latest ICC rankings on Monday.
The right-hander, now with 825 points, crossed the 800-point mark for the very first time in his career after bludgeoning his way to a powerful 208* in Mohali in the second ODI against Sri Lanka and leading to a 2-1 series win in Visakhapatnam against the same opponents.
Earlier in February this year, the Mumbai batsman had held the third spot in the rankings for batsmen.
Left-handed Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit’s opening partner gained one slot to reach to the 14th position. He was named the player of the series against Sri Lanka for aggregating 168 runs in the three matches, which also included an unbeaten 100 in the last ODI against Sri Lanka in Visakhapatnam.
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who along with Kuldeep Yadav destroyed the Sri Lankan batting on Sunday gained a whopping 23 places to reach to the 28th position in the bowlers’ rankings. He ended with a total of six wickets in the series.
Kuldeep, his bowling partner attained a career-high 56th position after gaining 16 places. All-rounder Hardik Pandya also reached to the 45th position after climbing 10 slots in the rankings for all-rounders.
Sri Lankan opener Upul Tharanga, who scored 95 runs in the third ODI climbed 15 places to reach to the 36th position in the rankings for batsmen. The left-hander has a tally of 571 points, which is his highest in the last five years. Wicket-keeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella also moved up seven spots to reach to the 37th position.
Right-arm pacer Suranga Lakmal, who ripped apart the Indian batting unit in the first ODI in Dharamsala
gained 14 places to move to the 22nd position while Angelo Mathews, gained nine spots to reach to the ninth in the rankings for bowlers.
However, there wasn’t any change in the team rankings. India had the opportunity to move to the number spot in the ODI rankings but they had to win the series 3-0 to do so.
