Comparing Cricket teams across generations is difficult as each has a different set of environmental dynamics, like we cannot compare all our fingers and say which is most valuable to us,same way it may not be very prudent to compare different eras.
Still this discussion keeps creeping up every now and then.So lets analyse whether the current Indian Cricket team is best across all ages.
The SENA Factor
Traditionally all Indian teams of the past and till recent present were labeled as ‘Tigers at Home’ who would fall flat on the fast and bouncy wickets of South Africa(S),England,New Zealand(N) and Australia(A)(SENA countries). The barometer of success for any sub-continental team was to do well in these SENA countries.
This is the first Indian team to have won a series in Australia, came very close to winning a series in South Africa, beat New Zealand comprehensively last year and gave England a good run for their money. This is an unparalleled feat in the annals of Indian Cricket.
The Ganguly Era: Best Indian Cricket Team?
With an aggressive Captain like Sourav Ganguly at the helm and fabulous talents like Sachin, Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag, Gambhir, Zaheer, Harbhajan and Yuvraj singh, this Indian team was also a team to beat.
Their batsmen averaged above 40 and with the likes of Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath and Zaheer Khan the bowling attack also looked lethal. But still current Indian team is far better than the previous ones statistically.
MSD- Mahi Time: Best Indian Cricket Team?
When Mahi [Mahendra Singh Dhoni] was the captain of Indian side most of the players who are currently playing for the national team were there. Questions are always being raised that the players were same under Dhoni’s captaincy also but the results were the not the same.
In India: Politics & Entertainment
The amount of success had a huge difference. Why? A simple answer to this is when they were picked for playing International cricket all of them were rookies. They were raw talent looking to get experience.Cut to 2019 they are all matured ,experienced and strong cricketers.
Especially the fast bowling unit has grown in leaps and bounds with the expert advice of Bharat Arun, they are now a unit capable of taking 20 wickets in overseas conditions.
Finally:Putting Things In Perspective

In the previous decades West Indies was a force to reckon with, Pakistan with mercurial players like Imran, Wasim Akram, Waqar, Javed Miandad etc was a potent side. The standard of Cricket in both these countries has gone down abysmally.
As I had said at the beginning,we cannot compare different eras, currently apart from India, England and Australia none of the other teams seem to possess the ammunition to succeed everywhere, hence statistically though this may be the best side to don Indian colours but a fair assessment across ages is not possible.
