Australia made 282 for 6 against the Indian attack of fast & spin. Seven Indian bowlers – including Tendulkar & Ganguly tried hard to get Australian batsmen out but in vain. Opener Mark Waugh was in tremendous form and had played an innings of 83 runs off 99 balls with 8 fours and a six.
He was well supported by Gilchrist (31) Steve Waugh (36) and extras (35) runs. Each of the batsmen played well and Australian gave India a target of 282 runs in 50 overs. It was a superb team effort by South African batsmen to play together while scoring fourth-highest team total of the tournament. 3. Australia – 303/4

The twin-pair helped their team to cross 300 runs in an important match at the group level.
