The Indian pair of Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal Karthik earned the bronze medal after losing the semi – finals in the WSF World Doubles Squash Championship held in Manchester.
The second seeded Indian pair lost to the English duo of Jenny Duncalf and Alison Waters, 11-6, 6-11, 8-11, to make an exit the tournament.
The Indians started on a brighter note as they quickly won the first set, to lead the game 1-0. But soon after things changed as they lost the plot from there and the English duo of Jenny and Alison, tightened things up.
The Indians put up a fight back but could not stop the English, as they rallied past the Joshna-Dipika to progress to the finals.
India were already ensured of a medal, when the Joshna-Dipika pair came back from a set behind to defeat the Canadian pair of Samantha Cornett and Nicole Todd 10-11, 11-6, 11-8, to ensure atleast one medal for India in the tournament.
Earlier, in the mixed doubles category the Indian pairs of Joshna-Vikram and Dipika-Sourabh had crashed out of the tournament.
The second seeded pair of Sourabh -Dipika came against the top seeded Paul Coll and Joelle King. Matching the movement and shots of the top seeded pair, the Indians managed to keep the game at 1-1 after two sets, even going on par to some extent in the decider set. However they could not sustain the pressure, finally losing the match 11-7, 10-11, 11-9, to exit the tournament.
The pair of Vikram -Joshna faced the Australian duo of David Palmer and Rachel Grinham. The Indians immediately showed their motive winning the first set 8-11. However the Australian pair came back to snatch the match in the next two sets, winning the match 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, to send the Indian members packing out of the tournament.
