Indian Wushu player Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh won the opening bout against Kok Ming Nick Ang at the 14th Wushu World Championship, Kazan, 2017 to sail through to the round of 16.
Bhanu, who won bronze at 2015 World Championship in Men’s 60 KG Sanda event, defeated Kok Ming Nick Ang of Singapore by 2-0 in the Round of 32.
Bhanu was the only Indian player who won on opening day.
In the Men’s 52 kg Sanda Round of 16, Uchit Sharma was knocked out by Arnel Mandal of Philippines by 2-0. Uchit had won silver medal in the same category at the previous edition of the World Championship.
In the Women’s 52 kg Sanda Round of 16, defending silver medalist, Sanathoi Devi Yumnam lost to Hyebin Kim of Korea by 2-0.
Sanda or Sanshou is a modern combat/fight method based on Chinese Martial Art skills. It is influenced by Chinese wrestling, boxing and kickboxing techniques.
