A match which was an aberration to their last minute loss of concentration, last minute shock goals and last minute defeats from Opponents, India defeat Belgium 2-1 at Champions Trophy.
The Asian Champions who are checking various combinations for the upcoming Summer Olympics are playing in the tournament without some of their regular men.
The match saw another great outing for SV Sunil, the Indian forward who’s been as consistent performer as the hockey sticks in the matches
Sunil, who was the captain for the day, gave India the first inroads to the Korean goal nine minutes into the second half. Kim Juhun scored three minutes to full time to equalize for Korea, but it couldn’t shatter the Indian morale who kept their good work going and just seconds later Nikkin Thimmaiah scored the winner for India.
Speaking on the win , the Indian Striker Manpreet Singh, in a post match ceremony, said, “We had a lot of chances up front but we couldn’t convert”, I think overall our team performance was very good because we conceded a goal late but in the next minute we hit back with a goal of our own.”
Speaking about the game, the Indian Coach Roelant Oltmans said, “We completely dominated the game, and made it exciting at the last for no reason. Korea’s defense kept us out for a long period, and I’m happy that we could get back soon after conceding one. We are still growing, and this keeps us in the medal hunt.”
India will play Australia in their final Pool encounter on June 16, at 20:30 IST.
