Ghulam Ahmed
Indian Right-Arm Off Spin Bowler Ghulam Ahmed is recalled as the first great off spinner to come from India. Ghulam had played 22 test matches for the Indian Cricket team and picked 68 wickets from 36 innings at an average of 30. His exploits included 3 four wicket hauls and 4 five wicket hauls in these innings; once he would have 10 wickets from the test match. He was a member of Indian cricket team under the great Vijay Hazare which went on a tour to England in 1952. Ahmed, on June 7, 1952, picked his fifth wicket (Allan Watkins) to get his name among the first 2 Indians with Test fifers at Leeds.
Ghulam Ahmed would go on to pick these wickets at an expense of 100 runs off 63 overs. Ahmed picked two more wickets in the second innings as well to finish with a figures of 7/137 from 85 overs, the most in terms of overs and wickets for India in the test match. England won the match by 7 wickets.
Roger Binny
Indian Right handed allrounder Roger Michael Humphrey Binny was the highest wicket taker for India in their World Cup win of 1983. Binny had played 27 test matches for the Indian Cricket team and picked 47 wickets from 38 innings at an average of 32. His exploits included 2 five wicket hauls in these innings; once he would have 8 wickets from the test match. He was a member of Indian cricket team under the great Kapil Dev which went on a tour to England in 1986. Binny, on June 20, 1986, picked his fifth wicket (Bruce French) to get his name listed among the first 2 Indians with Test fifers at Leeds.
Roger Binny would go on to pick these wickets at an expense of 40 runs off 13 overs. Binny picked two more wickets in the second innings as well to finish with a figures of 7/58 from 21 overs, the most in terms wickets for India in the test match. India won the match by 279 runs.
