US wrestlers’ February date with Iran is on

Kolkata: US is going through a severe condition with contrasting scenarios at present. On one hand, US president Donald Trump executed order bars entry to the US for 3 months to residents from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen and on the other hand the US wrestlers will travel for an upcoming competition in Iran as scheduled.

On January 30(AP), Washington, the executive director of USA Wrestling said that the American team are still planning to compete in the this month’s competition in Iran. USA Wrestling’s Rich Bender told The Associated Press that the Americans have “every intention” of travelling to Kermanshah for the men’s freestyle world cup on February 16-17.

This journey of the USA wrestling team marks history because according to the report of USA it is stated that it sent the first American sports team to compete in Iran in nearly 20 years in 1998. When freestyle wrestlers have competed in Iran for the Tahti cup 9times,and USA wrestlers have hosted the team from Iran in the US quite a number of times since 1990s.

USA Wrestling will send a delegation to Iran to compete in a World dual competition Feb. 16-17, the national governing body announced Monday. The delegation will include 13 athletes, two coaches and support staff.

Rich Bender, USA Wrestling Executive Director, said in a statement that this tour continues a long history of good will and cooperation between US and Iran through wrestling which is an impressive example of diplomacy between the people of these nations through sports. He also added that this is an important international competition and USA is looking forward to compete against the world’s best wrestling team.

The annual world cups in each discipline are among some of the most prestigious tournaments in the world. Iran will also host the Greco-Roman world cup in Tehran in March.
