The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sought clarifications from the Lodha Committee on Saturday as the Global media rights tender is slated to be submitted by October 25.
The Global media rights include Broadcast, Internet and Mobile. And around 18 companies including twitter and facebook have bought the tender documents.
Amidst all of this, Supreme Court has ordered BCCI to have an independent auditor to be appointed by the Lodha Committee to scrutinise the grant of contracts that are further done by BCCI.
According to reports, BCCI is expecting close to USD 4.5 billion from sale of the media rights. If this target is achieved then it will be a world record in the world of cricket.
There are mainly three specific reasons on which the parent body of cricket in India tried to sought directions from the Lodha panel.
First is the decision regarding appointing an independent auditor to oversee the tender and other processes by BCCI.
Second is if there should be any specific directions/instructions whether BCCI should defer from its original plan or cancel the opening of global tender happening on October 25 all together.
Third is if the board can get a direction whether they could issue set of clarifications to the potential bidders on any questions that the bidders might have before the Global media rights tender on 25 October.
BCCI has now appointed M/S Deloitte to supervise the submission, opening and assessment of the bids.
The top court gave the BCCI time till December 3 to implement the reforms recommended by the Lodha Panel.
Also BCCI will not be able to grant TV rights independently.
