Mumbai: Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has decided to honour former International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president late Jagmohan Dalmiya, who passed away almost a year ago, by keeping a cricket lecture in his honour. It is expected to be held in the upcoming home tours of Indian cricket team.
Jagmohan Dalmiya was the sitting BCCI president when he passed away due to severe illness last September. “The BCCI has its own MAK Pataudi Memorial Lecture. Since Mr Dalmiya was the longest serving CAB president as well a big name in Indian cricket administration, we feel that a cricketing lecture in his memory would be a fitting tribute by one and all,” a senior CAB official said on Sunday.
But as all the senior officials of every state are busy with Lodha recommendations, CAB is planning on finding the right moment to host the memorial.
“Every senior BCCI official currently is preoccupied with Lodha reforms. Although the organising a cricket lecture has got nothing to do with it but we would want a full attendance from who’s who in BCCI,” said the official.
CAB has not zeroed in on any date but it is mostly assumed to be held either during second test in New Zealand or during the ODI match against England later in this season.
When asked if it’s possible during the New Zealand series when
Eden Gardens will host the second Test, the official said: “We would want a date where ICC chairman Shashank Manohar, BCCI president Anurag Thakur and all the BCCI officials are present. We also need a former great either from India or other top cricketing nation to deliver the inaugural lecture. In case, we can’t organise it during New Zealand series, we would like to have it during the England series.”
