Kolkata: The talk of the town in the football world and the man who has won it all from the Euro Cup to the Ballon D’ Or last year, Cristiano Ronaldo, quashes hopes of becoming a coach after his retirement.
Ronaldo, who was crowned as the best men’s player of the 2015-2016 season in a. ceremony organised by FIFA in Zurich said, “If you ask me now if I want to be a coach, I would say no. Nor a sporting director or president of a club.”
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that 2016 was a dream year for Ronaldo. Some of the game’s top prizes like the Champions League trophy, the Club World Cup and the Euro cup, made their way into Ronaldo’s trophy cabinet.
To sign off 2016, Ronaldo was preferred as winner the Ballon
D ‘Or over his arch-rival and Barcelona star Lionel Messi. Winning the Euro Cup with Portugal in France was indeed a very special
achievement for the former Manchester United footballer, considering the fact that he has not been able to emulate the same kind of success sporting the national colours.
Playing the final against the hosts, France, Ronaldo was injured in the initial stages of the game and had to be substituted. Portugal emerged as the eventual champions, winning the match by a 1-0 margin. This is what Ronaldo said on that match, “It was complicated. I started the game but I didn’t finish. I was
very nervous,”
“I remember that I was in the dressing room. Then I went outside. I think my behaviour speaks for me really. I don’t really have anything to say. The images don’t lie. People can see how nervous I was. But I think it was a glorious day for Portugal,” he added.
Ronaldo credited his work ethic and the support of his teammates for the fact that he has been able to call the shots in the most popular sport across the globe. The 31- year old said, “There’s no secret. It’s working strong and arduously. I’m playing for a team (Real Madrid) that gives me the possibility to be able to compete for these trophies. With Portugal also, I thought it was a sensational Euro,” he said.
“I’ll return to saying again, it was a year of dreams –the collective performance, the individual performance, the team
performance and the performance of the national team,” he added.
Ronaldo has been at his best in the last season or so and has given a lot of joy to his fans across the planet by winning so many accolades. It would be interesting to see if he could emulate the same success this year also.
