Kolkata: Cristiano Ronaldo, the Real Madrid and Portugal footballer won football’s most prestigious award- the Ballon d’Or this year. According to a report by the BBC, Ronaldo beat his Barcelona rival Lionel Messi to win the award for the fourth time in his illustrious football career. Antoine Griezmann of France finished third in the list.
It was more or less expected that the former Manchester United striker would win the award as he has enjoyed a brilliant run in 2016.He has had a good time with his club Real Madrid who won the Champion’s League last season.
He also successfully led Portugal to the Euro Cup triumph beating hosts France. And he hasn’t looked back since.He has answered his critics, who criticised him because he hadn’t won any major international trophy with his country but now he successfully ticked that box too.This is what he had to say.
“I never thought in my mind that I would win the Golden Ball four times. I am pleased. I feel so proud and happy; I have the opportunity to thank all of my team-mates, the national team, Real Madrid, all of the people and players who helped me to win this individual award.”
