Pune: In the final of the DSK Cup 2016 today at Pune, DSK Shivajians FC ‘A’ side defeated Ozone FC Bengaluru 3-2. The match which reminded of one from the English football scene of the Eighties, all was not well. The home side saw two of its key players in Shane McFaul and Amey Ranawade stretchered off.
As the match started, DSK Shivajians took control of the game, putting the Ozone backline of Justine Stephen and Chika Wali under intense pressure. Further, it turned into an extremely feisty midfield battle with fouls and injuries.
Skipper of the DSK Shivajians FC, Quero, led the match to the first goal in the 24th minute. Before they could express their command on the game they suffered setback in the name of game-ending injuries to key players. With both Shane McFaul and Amey Ranawade stretchered off, the visiting side made more on the ball, putting the reshuffled DSK Shivajians backline under ever increasing pressure. No further goals were score before half time as the teams went to the break with 1-0 score in favor of Shivajians.
Coming off the break, it was again DSK Shivajians which doubled their advantage in the 55th minute. After an excellent run of play, Kim Song Yong found himself clear in the six yard box to finish off Lalthathanga’s through ball. The second goal however got the Ozones, galvanized, as they pulled a goal back on the 60th minute via Vignesh.
In the final minutes of the game, both teams pulled out all stops. It was, however, DSK Shivajians who managed to get on the scoresheet again through a delicate chip by new recruit Naro Hari Shreshta. With the scoreline now at 3-1, Ozone’s enrolled an attendance on the scoresheet one final time. This goal by CS Sabeeth was inconsequential as it couldn’t change the result of the match. DSK Shivajians FA “A” won the match 3-2.
Following the final was distribution of few individual awards where Naro Hari Shreshta won the Top Scorer award, CS Sabeeth the best Player and Abhishek Das was adjudged the best goalkeeper.
