Lausanne: The apex Gymnastics body, FIG, has put sanctions against eight judges who were deputed at 2015 Worlds and Rio Test Events, following the marking control procedures.
In a press statement issued with this, the FIG has stated their priorities to have accurate scoring and integrity in rankings. In a thorough analysis of the scoring done by sworn in judges at the two Rio 2016 qualifier events, done to ensure that the athletes’ results were compatible with the current code of points, it was confirmed that vast majority of the judges did an excellent job on the road to Rio.
But, the analysis also highlighted several apparent problems, which impacted in a total of 14 proceedings with the Disciplinary Commission over the past few months.
The Disciplinary Commission reviewed the cases and initiated eight penalties for flawed or unsatisfactory judgments. The details of sanctions are below:
• five judges received a warning
• two judges were excluded from all FIG activities for a period of three months
• one judge was excluded from all FIG activities for a period of four months
• the Disciplinary Commission rejected accusations for the six other cases

• Number of sanctioned judges: 2 (warning for biased judgment)
Rio Test Event
• Number of judges: 107
• Number of disciplinary proceedings: 2
• Number of sanctioned judges: 2 (4-month suspension for biased judgment, 3-month suspension for biased judgment)
Rhythmic Gymnastics
2015 Stuttgart World Championships
• Number of judges: 64
• Number of disciplinary proceedings initiated: 5
• Number of judges sanctioned: 2 (Warning for biased judgment, 3-month suspension for biased judgment)
Rio Test Event
• Number of judges: 14
• Number of disciplinary proceedings: 2
• Number of judges sanctioned: 2 (warning for unsatisfactory judging)
The sanctions mean that none of these eight judges will be appearing at the Rio 2016 Summer Games.
