The Indian team lost to New Zealand’s Black Sticks 1-0 in their third match at the 6-Nations Invitational Tournament.
A match which was a showcase of more caution than aggression as both teams looked to play cautious hockey to avoid defeat, with India being on the wrong side of the scorecard against Germany in the tournament.
In the first half itself, India got a chance but they couldn’t convert that into a goal as the pass from Ramandeep was not hit past the Black Sticks Goalie. Minutes later, the Black Sticks had a PC, but the Indian goalie Vikas Dahiya was cautious and he thwarted the threat.
Entering into the second quarter, a lapse in the defense cost India a goal as the ball bundled over the line after it was saved by Dahiya. And then onward was the Indian tryst to get an equaliser.
They got a few chances here and there in the match further, but an agile New Zealand’s front line and their defense negotiated the threats to keep the scorecard in their favor as they took the victory.
India will play Argentina next at 17:30 on July 2, 2016.
