In a next after Kochi and Navi Mumbai, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda (Goa) was confirmed as the venue for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, 2017. With this cheers went to the goan fans who are crazy about football.
Earlier today, the experts from FIFA & Local Organizing Committee for FIFA U-17 World Cup, 2017 visited the stadium premises to check about various in-house facilities before announcing the verdict.
The 13- member delegation, led by FIFA’s Project Lead for the tournament, Ms. Tracy Lu along with LOC members evaluated the developments made towards preparations for the U-17 World Cup and were delighted with the progress since the last inspection in February.
The Tournament Director of the LOC, Mr Javier Ceppi and FIFA’s Project Lead for the tournament, Ms Tracy Lu both felt that hosting the AFC U-16 Championship helped Goa get into a very high infrastructure compliance level required for the marquee event. They added that Goa certainly deserves to be a venue for India’s first FIFA tournament.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, also known as Fatorda Stadium is situated in Margao, Goa which has hosted both international football as well as cricket matches. The Stadium Complex was established in 1989 by the Sports Authority of Goa and is home to FC Goa, Dempo S.C., Salgaocar S.C., and Sporting Clube de Goa.
