Mumbai: Dope tainted wrestler Narsingh Yadav’s case has been referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Office (PMO) for further probe to look into the doping suspension matter.
Yadav is facing a four-year ban from wrestling after his urine sample was tested positive just in build up to Rio Olympics, 2016. The information was shared by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Yadav, who was supposed to participate in 74 kg freestyle category, was not allowed to participate in the event after World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) overruled National Anti-Doping Agency’s (NADA) clean chit to the wrestler of any wrongdoing ahead of Olympics.
The wrestler’s camp suggested that there was foul play involved. They alleged that someone from the rival camp might have spiked his drink or food to get him banned. Yadav said that there could be conspiracy and demanded a probe. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly backed the wrestler and assured him of an inquiry.
Having grabbed an Olympic quota by virtue of his bronze in world championship in Las Vegas in 2015, Narsingh Yadav was always fighting the battle. He was chosen ahead of Sushil Kumar, two time Olympic medallist and the case went to court and Yadav was vindicated and secured the berth.
India suffered badly at Rio because of the saga and lost their spot at 74 kg category. Yadav says that he is innocent and now its up to the CBI to determine whether Yadav is speaking the truth or not. Wrestling Federation of India should take some blame as well as they were complacent and it cost India a medal.
