Kolkata: Indian ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took Twitter by surprise on Monday with his tweet “To all the youngsters in TN, 234 job opportunities to open up shortly.”
Tweet maniacs worldwide mistook it to be a reaction from Ashwin on VK Sasikala who is all set to be the next chief minister of Tamil Nadu. To put it to a halt the 30-year-old cricketer cleared the air with another tweet: “Guys please cool it down, it is a job creation drive. Nothing to do with Politics.#howmuchtwisting.”
In this tech savvy era Twitter creates hype within the nation with any public figure coming up with a statement. The very repercussions that follow public figures’ tweets are often not taken in the right perspective. Similarly in Ashwin’s s case, Twitter users failed to comprehend the real motive of the tweet. The tweet had no political colour and was completely free of any controversies. The tweet on “234 job opportunities” by Ashwin were retweeted by 2,900 followers and had gained 5,300 likes vigorously in about two hours.
Clarifying it, Ashwin’s second tweet on the job creation drive, his manager V Balaji said his tweet had “nothing” to do with Indian politics and his intention through that tweet was developing job opportunities for the aspiring youth of the nation. It was a tweet free of any political statements and was instead a promising move for the youth to provide them with a secured future.
“Through Brand Ashwin, his cricket institute and Ashwin Foundation, he has created job opportunities for various people. The number 234 has nothing to do with politics. It’s an interesting number and one that is appealing. He has already started the campaign. Job opportunities mean … people who are associated with his brand (like me), those working for his ads, foundation and his institute…Ashwin hopes to create more such opportunities for youngsters,” he mentioned.
