Kolkata: Just before the first test between Australia and Pakistan gets underway on Thursday, two of Pakistan’s main bowlers-Wahab Riaz and Yasir Shah got into a scuffle, according to reports from The Express Tribune on Wednesday.
According to a PCB official, the two nearly exchanged blows following an altercation while playing football. The official said, “Nothing major happened but that is a disciplinary breach.” The team management may hear from these players about what had actually happened and may take some necessary action against them.
However, this isn’t the first time that such things have occurred within the Pakistan team. During the T20 World Cup 2007 in South Africa, Shoaib Akhtar, the legendary Pakistani pacer engaged in a brawl with banned pacer Mohammed Asif. This happened in Johannesburg and a dressing room confrontation between the two escalated to such an extent that Shoaib ended up hitting Asif with a bat on his left thigh. However, the former was sent home afterwards for breaching the discipline in the team.
However, according to reports from The Express Tribune, things between Yasir and Wahab Riaz cooled down as they posted a picture together using Yasir’s twitter account. The both of them also uploaded a video where Wahab Riaz said ,”Hi guys there is nothing wrong, as is being told in the media. Me and Yasir are very good friends and nothing happened between us. We are united and we will play together tomorrow and you have to pray for us,”
However, it will be good for Pakistan if both these top quality bowlers solve every dispute between them and play together with an indomitable team spirit against Australia on Thursday in Brisbane.
