Day 1 of the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships began today at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar and there was some bad news to start with for the Indian contingent. Decathlete, Jagtar Singh tested positive for an in-competition dope test which was conducted during the Federation Cup last month.
In the morning session of Day 1, the three male Indian sprinters in the 400m category, Md Anas, Arokia Rajiv and Amoj Jacob put up a good show.

19 year old, Amoj Jacob is one athlete who would be looking to make a mark in this event. Olympian, Anas finished second in his heat while both Rajiv and Amoj came first in their respective heats.
The Evening Session is about to get underway, where Olympians Vikas Gowda and Manpreet Kaur will be competing in the Discus and Shot Put events respectively.

Keep an eye on the young and extremely talented 18 year old Jisna Mathew in the 400m category. Jisna who trains at the Usha School of Athletics was part of the Indian 4 X 400 relay team at the Rio Olympics.
Pressure will be on Dutee Chand both on and off the track, with the IAAF set to challenge the 2015 CAS rulings on hyperandrogenism which not only paved the way for Dutee but also other female athletes with high testosterone levels to compete at the International level.
