Kolkata: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has asked all the state associations to reschedule their domestic fixtures for the junior and women’s cricket matches to incorporate teams from the North East states and Bihar for the upcoming season.
BCCI General Manager Ratnakar Shetty, in a letter to all the state associations wrote, “There is a change in the schedule, arising out of the inclusion of teams from NE States and Bihar.”
On September 8, representatives from the six north eastern states had met the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators and had appealed to them for granting them the permission to participate in the Ranji Trophy as a combined unit.
While the Ranji Trophy wasn’t mentioned in the letter, tournaments like the U-19 Women’s League, U-23 men’s one-day tournament and the U-16 Vijay Merchant trophy for Bihar and the North East states were stated in, ‘additions’.
Dhanbad would host the U-19 Women’s League from November 1 and the venue for the U-23 men’s one-day tournament would be Ranchi. It would begin from January 21. Also, the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy would be played in Shillong in the month of December.
The North East states were granted full membership of the BCCI earlier this year in compliance to the Lodha Committee recommendations. A combined team from the North East has also been allowed to participate in the age-group tournaments organised by the BCCI.
