Having made a solid start on the road of Indian Super League season five, FC Goa settles for a 5-0 against Mumbai City FC in their first home game in the Fatorda Stadium (Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium), Goa on Wednesday.
With four points from two games, Sergio Lobera’s men looked set to host their neighbor Mumbai City FC. Last season’s golden boot winner Ferran Corominas has shown no signs of slowing down and bagged four goals in three appearances. He won and converted a penalty early in the 7th minute.
Brace from substitute Miguel Palanca (84’ and 90’), Jackichand Singh (55’), Edu Bedia (61’) saw Goa romp to the top of the table in the fifth Indian Super League table.
The starting eleven saw no changes from Sergio Lobera since the 3-1 victory against defending Champions Chennaiyin FC in their away match.
Mumbai City FC brought in Arnold Issoko wide up front as Milan Singh was brought in to replace Raynier Fernandes in the starting eleven for Jorge Costa.
Though the Islanders registered more shots in the first half but were prodigiously wasteful in front of the hosts. Despite being unmarked inside the box, Rafael Basto’s was guilty of shooting a wide at the half-hour mark.
For the Gaurs it took only about ten minutes in the second half to double their lead through Jackichand. The winger turned in from close range an inch-perfect cross from Seriton Fernandes, playing it from the byline on the right. Soon after, Bedia chipped the ball into the back of the net after an exchange with Corominas at the edge of the box. He finished the weak clearance from Shouvik Ghosh off Ahmed Johua’s free-kick with a goal.
The heat turned on after the substitute Miguel Palnaca stepped in late into the game. The 90th minute was braced by a delightful cross by Johua which Palanca slotted into the corner of the net from the left.
Mohammad Nawaz followed the brace to keep a clean sheet from Machados free-kick from the edge of the box with a spectacular save.
Mumbai City FC beckoning from the trip to Delhi spotted the 7th position in the points table whereas FC Goa reaches the top of the table with 7 points keeping up the momentum.
