5. West Indies 291/8 vs Australia
The West Indies side batted first against the Australians in the all-important final match of the tournament at the Lord’s cricket ground. However, the Aussie fast-bowling trio of Dennis Lillee, Jeff Thomson, and Gary Gilmour soon struck big blows and the Caribbean side lost their top 3 wickets for 50 runs. Then arrived the skipper Clive Lloyd and he played the innings of his lifetime. Lloyd scored 102 runs from just 85 balls. His 149 partnership with Rohan Kanhai proved decisive in the match.
The West Indians put a formidable total of 291 runs on the scoreboard. In return, the strong Australian batting line-up fought back but they were all out for 274 runs. West Indies the strongest side on the series had now been crowned as world champions.
