Defending and two-time champion Chennaiyin FC fell to its second defeat in as many matches after losing 1-3 against FC Goa at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.
It was the early 12th-minute goal blasted low into the net by Edu Bedia that gave the Gaurs an early lead. It was the only goal in the first half to which followed two more in the second half of the regulation time. In the 53rd minute came from the star signing of FC Goa, Ferran Corominas. It was the third goal of the season for the unmarked Coro. Soon was followed by Mourtada Fall’s header straight into the net into the 80th minute.
Within 6 minutes, the striker from Chennaiyin FC missed a chance to lead with a faulty execution. Taking the advantage of this type of addressing the Gaurs soon took the lead with an easy strike. Then came the following goal in the 53rd minute from Coro who had led the FC Goa to an equaliser in their first of the Indian Super League season 5 against NorthEast United FC. Today it was an easy slot in for Coro with the help of Seriton Fernandes. The Gaurs took away all the three points with the 80th-minute goal by the debutant Mourtada Fall.
It was a fine header by Eli Sabia in the 90th minute that prompted the Chennaiyin FC with a hope to rope in, in the additional injury time as the season has seen some late goals. It came with through deflection by Coro who was again unmarked. With this Chennaiyin FC marked their first goal of the season.
