Kerala Blasters got off to a winning start with a 2-0 victory in Kolkata on Saturday. After being defeated in the finals of two seasons in ISL by ATK, the blasters finally have given a tough game to ATK.
The Blasters’ centre-forward, Matej Poplatnik scored a goal in the 77th minute. It was nine minutes later Slavisa Stojanovic scored the victory goal for the Blasters. In four years this is the first victory for the Kerala Blasters.
In the 28th minute, Arindam Bhattacharya brilliantly saved a shot from Poplatnik. Finding the Slovenian in the ATK box, Lalruatthara created a wonderful chance for him to score.
Kerala had made a good start from the kickoff. Matej had given the ATK players a tough time in the match. Within 10 minutes of the match, Poplatnik had a header saved by ATK.
Manuel Lanzarote struck the crossbar in the 15th minute. Both the teams looked for starting afresh in the new season after a dismal campaign in the last. It was a poor start for the Blasters last season though they seem to be made up for their faults today. ATK, on the other hand, has still given a disappointing open for the fans after the awful season last year.
