Kolkata: Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir, despite being out of the national side for quite some time now has never failed to contribute to the well-being of his countrymen. Already associated with many other charity work, Gambhir on Tuesday announced that he will bear the expenses of a five year old Zohra, who lost her father in an recent attack on the Kashmir police.
Gambhir who had just recently opened a free community kitchen in Delhi to feed the poor, showed his patriotism once again as he extended his helping hand towards Zohra, daughter of Abdul Rashid, sub-inspector of Jammu and Kashmir police who was killed by the militants on August 28 in the south Kashmir town of Anantnag.
An outspoken man, Gambhir who has constantly voiced his support for the Indian army took to social media site Twitter to declare his decision of funding the expenses of five year old Zohra. He wrote in a series of tweets, “Zohra, I can’t put u 2 sleep wid a lullaby but I’ll help u 2 wake up 2 live ur dreams. Will support ur education 4 lifetime #daughterofIndia.”
Another tweet followed, “Zohra,plz don’t let those tears fall as i doubt even Mother Earth can take d weight of ur pain. Salutes to ur martyred dad ASI,Abdul Rashid,” showing his emotions for the girl he lovingly called daughter of India.
In times, when money has become more precious than human lives, Gambhir’s work just proves why humans with good hearts still exists in this world.
The KKR Captain who has led the Kolkata franchise to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014 and also played pivotal roles in helping India win the T20 World Cup and 50 over World Cup with highest scores of 75 and 97 in the finals and has time and again proved why hearts can be won even outside the cricket field, with deeds like these.
Earlier also in April 2017 during IPL 10 the Delhi cricketer had announced that his foundation will bear all the educational expenses of the children of the 25 CRPF personnels who were killed by the naxals in the Sukma district of Chattisgarh.
The Gautam Gambhir Foundation has always been active in charity work, with the left-handed batsman time and again looking into the affairs directly by himself, like supervising the distribution of food in the community kitchen.
As the southpaw prepares himself to perform well in the domestic tournaments to stage a comeback into the national team, fans will hope that he continuously wins hearts of the people with his work if not with the bat.
