She is also a gold medalist in FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup held in Turkey in 2018. She began her training of artistic gymnast from the age of 6 and got her primary training from Soma Nandi. In 2008, she participated in Junior Nationals championships of Gymnasts and won the tournament wonderfully. With 2-3 years of national-level competitions, she won almost 77 medals with 67 gold medals. She had shown her possibility of winning a medal in Commonwealth Games with her performance in CWG in Delhi in 2010. After this, she has skillfully participated in 2014 Commonwealth Games and ended up with a bronze medal. In 2016, she got selected for the Rio Olympics and became the first female gymnast from India to qualify for the final vault. She is hugely noted for attempting the vault ‘Produnova’, which is considered the most difficult & dangerous vault in women’s artistic gymnastics. Karmakar became one of the five women in the world, who have successfully landed this vault in the international meadow. She, unfortunately, skipped the 2018 Commonwealth Games due to her knee injury and for undergoing corrective surgery during that period.
