Profile | Captain of the French national team, Hugo Lloris also leads his club Tottenham Hotspurs. The World Cup winning goalkeeper is known for his leadership abilities and good nature, apart from being a calm and composed presence between the sticks. Having started his career with OGC Nice, his hometown club, Lloris was part of the team that had a dream run in the 2005-06 Coupe de la Ligue. In fact, such were his performances that French champions Lyon came calling for him in the summer window and won the race for his signature ahead of AC Milan. Lloris’ spell in Lyon was marked with a number of domestic honors including the French Cup and the French Super Cup. He also made his debut in the international team in this period. Hugo Lloris went ahead to join Tottenham Hotspurs in 2011 as their No.1 while also making himself an irreplaceable figure in the French national team setup. With Spurs, Lloris stamped his mark on the Premier League as one of the best goalkeepers in British football. He was named captain on the departure of Younes Kaboul. He also took up the mantle of captaincy for the French national team, guiding them to the Final of the 2016 Euros Final. However, Lloris’ best was yet to come as he went on to win the World Cup in Russia a couple of years later. His club career also reached new highs as Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs traveled all the way to the final of the Champions League, only to be beaten by fellow English rivals Liverpool in Madrid. Lloris has still the potential to guide France and Spurs to new highs and earn more accolades in the process. With Argentine Paulo Gazzaniga at Spurs under his wings, Lloris has a new legacy to keep at Spurs. (Written By Priyansu) |
