Profile | Jinson Johnson is an Indian middle-distance runner, who is an Asian Games gold medalist and represents India internationally since 2009. He is a specialist in 800 meters and 1500 meters events. Johnson was born in a town of Kozhikode district of Kerala and accomplished his education in his own state as a graduate. He took his training of running from the Kerala Sports Council Hostel situated in Kottayam before joining Army. Johnson came into the limelight for his performance in 2015 Asian Athletics Championships in 800 meters event. After this, he took his training session even more seriously and got qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics Games. At that bout, he surpassed his own record by clocking his personal best time in 800 meters running. Then he has set a new record in Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship 2018 and escalated the hope of winning gold among the all sport-lover Indian. At the Asian Games of 2018, he finally bagged the gold medal in the 1500 meters event and clinched a silver medal as well in 800 meters event. Apart from a skilled athlete, Johnson is also a trained Army personnel and posted as a Junior Commissioned Officer at Hyderabad. Currently, he holds the rank of Naib Subedar, a Gazetted officer in the Army and preparing himself for the upcoming Olympics 2020 in Tokyo.
