Profile | Manjit Singh is an Indian middle-distance runner, who represents India internationally since 2013. He is an Asian Games gold medalist and specializes in 800m & 1500m events. His father Randhir Chahal is a former field athlete in the shot put and discus throw. Manjit got his passion for athletics from his father and began his training from an early age. After participating in a state-level running competition, Manjit participated in Asian Athletics Championship in 2013 and made his international debut. He came 4th in men’s 800m event and got the limelight as an emerging Indian athlete instantly. In 2014, he starts with a silver medal and came 2nd in Federation Cup. Unfortunately, he couldn’t qualify for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games that year. This time, Manjit has suffered from some injuries and took leave from the field for more than 1 year. After a complete recovery, he appeared in a National Interstate Championship and won a silver medal there in 2017. In early 2018, he participated in Patiala Federation Cup and surpassed his own record in 800m & 1500m categories. His improved-performance, got him qualified for the Asian Games this year successfully. In August 2018, he came first in Men’s 800 meters run and bagged a gold medal for his country.
