Profile | Prannoy Kumar is an Indian International badminton player, who represents India internationally since 2010. He is one of the youngest successful national-level badminton players of this country. Prannoy has grabbed the rank of 8th place in the list of world’s best badminton players for 1 year and currently holds the rank of 20th in this list. He is a Commonwealth Games gold medalist and represents the Mumbai Rockets franchise in Premier Badminton League. He began playing badminton at the age of 10 and took his primary training from his father, who was an All India Air Force Badminton champion. Prannoy started his career with the Summer Youth Olympics in 2010 and clinched a Silver medal in Boy’s singles category. In the same following year, he took part in World Junior Championship and won a bronze medal in the Boy’s singles category. At that time, he was in seek for a skilled coach for his training, but unfortunately, Prannoy faced lots of rejections due to his slow speed. Some even advised him to become a doubles player, but he didn’t change his path and shown the word that dedication could make anything possible. In 2014, he showed his best effort in the Indonesia Open Grand Prix tournament and became the third highest ranking Indian badminton player of all-time. After getting under the training session of Pullela Gopichand, Prannoy keeps improving his skill progressively and finally fulfilled his dream of winning in 2018. Currently, he serves as a trainer at the Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad. (as Compiled by Madhushree Das Ghosh)(Profile Image from Facebook) |
