Profile | PU Chitra is an Indian middle-distance sprinter, who represents India internationally since 2016. She is specialized in 1500 meters distance running and a gold medalist in South Asian Games. Chitra also won gold in Asian Championship 2017 and a bronze medal in Asian Games. Chitra came into the limelight for her gold victory at 2019 Asian Athletics Championships in 1500 event held in Doha. She started her athletics career since her school days and won numbers of achievements in the state-level championships. She became a skilled track and field athlete during her teenage and started representing Indian internationally with the South Asia Games championship in 2016. Chitra won gold in that championship and became a bright contender for the Asia Athletics Championship 2017 held in Bhubaneswar. At that championship, she took participate in the 1500 m and got the tag of ‘Queen of Asia in the mile’ for her speed in the track. She won her first Asian Athletics Championship gold that year and repeat that winning coast in the ongoing AAC torment 2019 as well. She won country’s third gold medal and has bagged two gold medals in women’s 1500M event in this championship. She clocked the time with 4:13.52s and surpassed the previous record of former female World Champion’s finished with 14:14.00 timings.
