Profile | Rahul Aware is an Indian International wrestler, who represents India in men’s freestyle since 2009. He is a gold medalist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the 57kg men’s freestyle. Rahul is a 5-time national champion and became one of the famous sportspersons of India after his win in the last Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast. He started his journey of wrestling since 2008 at the national level began it with the 2008 Commonwealth Pune India Championship. He made his international from the very next year with the Junior Asian Wrestling Championship 2009 and won gold in that competition. He won a silver medal in Junior World Wrestling Championship in the same following year and a gold medal in Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in 2011. During this time, Rahul has participated in Golden Grand Prix championship and Dave Schultz Memorial Tournaments as well. He kept his performance consistency moderate at that time and won a bronze & a silver medal successively in those championships. He reached the pre-quarterfinal round in the 2014 World Championship but unfortunately couldn’t go further. During 2016, Rahul Aware along a few fellow national-level wrestlers got the full financial support from the Indian government under the Target Olympics Podium Scheme for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
