Sushil Kumar Solanki is an Indian freestyle wrestler, who represents India since 1998. He is an Olympic silver medalist, who clinched two individual Olympics medals in his kitty and became the only Indian contender to do so.
He is a Commonwealth Game gold medalist and the only Indian title holder of the World Wrestling Championship till date. He started taking professional wrestling training from a very early age and took part in the World Cadet Championship in 1998 at the age of 14 only. After completing his primary training from the local akhada, he went to the Chatrasaal Stadium and then came under the training session of his current coach Mahabali Satpal Singh.
Sushil came into the limelight for the very first time, after winning gold in the 2003 Commonwealth championship. Gradually, he became a strong contender of world’s no. 1 ranking due to his back-to-back wins in the international platforms like Asian Championships, Commonwealth Championships, Commonwealth Games, Olympics, etc. Sushil has won 3 gold medals in Commonwealth Games for the consecutive sessions, two in the 74-kg category and 1 in the 66-kg category.
He is one of the popular athletes from India and thus got the opportunity of commercial endorsement for numbers of top-rated brands in his country. Besides wrestling, Sushil enjoys football game a lot and often spend his free time watching football matches. He owns a charity foundation named Sushil 4 Sports where he helps aspiring athletes from any sports field. Currently, Sushil serves the Indian Railways and works on the post of Assistant Commercial Manager.
