Kolkata: Gujarat registered a thumping win over Jammu and Kashmir inside three days in their Ranji Trophy encounter held at Surat on Thursday.
The Parthiv Patel led side demolished Jammu and Kashmir by an innings and 64 runs. Earlier the defending Ranji Trophy champions had began in style as they had restricted Jammu and Kashmir to just 261 runs in their first innings with leg-spinner Piyush Chawla leading the way with a magnificent five-wicket haul.
They turned up the heat with the bat as well as Manprit Juneja scored 131 runs from 279 balls which included 10 fours and a six to lead the charge and was also ably supported by Chirag Gandhi (86) and Priyank Panchal (61) as they ended up with 455 runs on the board, taking a 194-run lead.
Jammu and Kashmir already trailing by a decent margin needed to put up an inspiring batting performance but unfortunately the same didn’t happen as Hardik Patel and Piyush Chawla who destroyed their batting order with five and four wickets respectively. While Patel took a total of eight wickets in the match, veteran Chawla snared a total of nine scalps as the duo proved to be the stars with the ball for Gujarat.
In Agartala, Madhya Pradesh eased to a 10-wicket win over Tripura after dismissing them for under 250 runs in both the innings. Chasing 48 runs, the Madhya Pradesh openers quickly scored these runs as both Rajat Patidar and Harpreet Singh registered 25 runs each.
