Kolkata: Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has always been someone with a clear opinion and has never backed down from expressing it. Over the past few days, India has been rocked by violence after a CBI court in Panchkula handed a 20-year jail sentence to Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the chief of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect on Monday after he was found guilty of committing two rapes.
The decision resulted in a lot of violence which resulted in 36 casualties and the damage of private and personal property worth ₹5 crore and the Delhi batsman felt that it was a, ‘classic case of religion marketing’.
On Saturday, he tweeted, “Wonder what Ram & Rahim are thinking about the ‘Insaan’ & his misdeeds today! A classic case of religion marketing! #PanchkulaViolence.”
The issue of the national anthem being played in the cinema halls was a hotly debated topic for a long time in the past but Gambhir pointed out that there are far more serious issues to act upon like the terrorists at the border and ‘rapists’ like these self-proclaimed godmen or ‘babas’.
He further tweeted on Sunday, “Border per terrorist, andar Baba rapist aur hum uljhey hain cinema hall mein national anthem bajaney k liyey, time 2 act #pulwamaattack”.
Interestingly, a video had surfaced on the internet few days back where Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had claimed that he had ‘coached’ the likes of Indian skipper Virat Kohli, Yusuf Pathan and legendary pacemen Zaheer Khan and Waqar Younis.
