Today we bring you the cricketers who featured in the top few to be listed among the fastest 6000 Runs in ODIs. Cricket is a sport which has given more options for individual records than any other sports. Bowling, Batting, Wicket-keeping, fielding and captaining, every aspect of Cricket has yielded galore of records. Today we’ll talk about one more record associated with ODI Batting. Here we’ll discuss batsmen who scored the fastest 6000 runs in ODIs.
5. Viv Richards (West Indies)
Former West Indian great, Sir Vivian Richards, or Viv Richards as he was called, is on the fifth pedal of the list of those who scored the fastest 6000 runs in ODIs. Richards scored his 6000th run in his 141st innings in his 156th ODI match.
The Master Blaster of yesteryear, thus, goes below on the list if the number of ODI matches were counted for the feat. Viv reached this feat against Pakistan at Brisbane on January 7, 1989. He stayed atop the list of fastest to 6000 ODI runs for 25 years before Kohli changed the record listings. Joe Root, the batter from England, has exactly the same number of innings to this milestone, but Richards, being the first to reach has to be ahead of him. Richards scored his 6000th ODI run in Benson & Hedges World Series.
4. Shikhar Dhawan (India)
The Gabbar of Indian Cricket, Shikhar Dhawan, is on the fourth pedal of the list of those who scored the fastest 6000 runs in ODIs. Shikhar scored his 6000th run in his 140th innings in his 143rd ODI match.
Another interesting fast is that, Shikhar scored his 6000th run when he was captaining India against Sri Lanka at R. Premadasa Stadium. His entry to this list means exit of former India captain Sourav Ganguly who was the second fastest Indian to this milestone.
3. Kane Williamson (New Zealand)
Kane Williamson of New Zealand is on the third pedal of the list of those who scored the fastest 6000 runs in ODIs. Williamson, the Cool Cat as he is called, scored his 6000th run in his 139th innings in his 146th ODI match.
Among the most prolific batsman coming from the Oceania nation, Kane was never in contention of topping the list for this record. He scored his 6000th ODI run against Australia at the Mother of Cricket, Lord’s on June 29, 2019 during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
2. Virat Kohli (India)
The Indian Run Machine & Record Machine of Current Era, Virat Kohli is on the second pedal of the list of those who scored the fastest 6000 runs in ODIs. Kohli, the Chase Master as he is called, scored his 6000th run in his 136th innings in his 144th ODI match.
The Delhi Cricketer and Indian Cricket team Captain, Kohli stayed atop the list almost for a year before Hashim Amla would eventually be the table topper of this record. Virat reached this feat against Sri Lanka at Hyderabad on November 9, 2014 in a bilateral home ODI series against the touring island nation.
1. Hashim Amla (South Africa)
The South African Mr. Consistent has led quite a few batting records without even taking the limelight that other cricketers have got for lesser milestones. Hash, the former international cricketer, tops the list of those who scored the fastest 6000 runs in ODIs. Amla scored his 6000th run in his 123rd innings in his 126th ODI match.
The table topper of 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 ODI runs is also the fastest to 6000 ODI runs which he achieved on October 25, 2015 at Mumbai during a bilateral home ODI series against Hosts India.
These were the cricketers who took the least innings to reach this milestone of their career, yes, 6000 ODI runs and hence make the list of the fastest to 6000 ODI runs. This was it for the day.
